What is it and I am doing it right?

There are a lot of philosophies and even some major dogma around meditation. But at the root, meditation, like any mindfulness practice, is the act or non-act of clearing the mind of clutter. It is the process of gently quieting the mind and trying to reduce if not eliminate the monkey brain for a brief period of time.

Many folks wonder if there are doing it correctly or feel discouraged if they cannot sit in a state of blissful oneness for an extended amount of time. However, the simple act of trying to bring your attention back to the present moment is all that it really takes. Let the thoughts come and go and the goal is really to gently allow them to drift by without attaching too deeply to them.

The breath makes for a wonderful focal point and even better try focusing on the point between the inhalation and the exhalation where true stillness exists. Do not worry if you are doing anything correctly. Stay consistent and you will experience various degrees of clarity and insight.

Remember this is a practice and just like any other wellness objective, this is about the long term benefits and not any single experience.
