Day 1: Arrive in Cairo

  • Transfer to Hotel Mena House
Experience the wondrous beauty of the Pyramids from Marriott Mena House, Cairo. A frequent stop for dignitaries and celebrities, this 5-star hotel offers travelers a taste of modern luxury. Set at the base of the Pyramids, hotel guests can easily walk to one of Egypt’s most popular attractions. Relax in your upscale hotel rooms with indulgent bedding, marble bathrooms and private balconies with fantastic views of the pool, gardens or the Pyramids. Wander through the gardens and enjoy the recreational amenities and variety of dining experiences.
  • Evening meeting circle
Meet the group and set the intentions!

Day 2: Cairo

  • Private Access Sphinx Paws
The Dream Stele, also called the Sphinx Stele, is an epigraphic stele erected between the front paws of the Great Sphinx of Giza by the ancient Egyptian pharaoh Thutmose IV in the first year of the king’s reign, 1401 BC, during the 18th Dynasty.
  • Bazaar Shopping
Cairo boasts some of the most jaw-dropping sights in the world, but it’s also home to a colorful and unique shopping scene. Focusing majorly on antiques, glass products, and artisan goods, Egypt’s capital is home to a plethora of souks (An Arab market or marketplace) and bazaars, world-class shopping malls, and street markets. Whether you’re on the hunt for an exciting vintage piece or a traditional Egyptian hookah, the country’s capital is a shopper’s paradise.
  • Khan El Kahlili
This is the most atmospheric of all Egyptian bazaars or markets. Loved by tourists and locals alike, this lively 14th-century market is known as the ‘King of Souks’. The labyrinth of alleyways is known worldwide for its vast selection of authentic Egyptian goods, featuring entire streets dedicated to specific trades. Located in the heart of Islamic Cairo, this busy and colorful open-air bazaar is filled with unique and exotic items from spices and perfumes to jewelry and souvenirs.
  • Souk Al Khiyyamia
As Cairo’s only remaining traditional covered market, Souk Al Khayamiya is the best place to find affordable, authentic Egyptian-produced textile crafts. Named after the artisan makers who produce the fabrics used to make ceremonial tents, the market is a portal to the medieval world. From boldly colored carpets to tapestries, pillowcases, and wall hangings, merchants have been selling along the same street here for centuries.
  • Sunset Camel Ride
Take a sunset camel ride in Giza with the three iconic pyramids Menkaure, Khafre, and Khufu in the distance. Led by a Bedouin guide, make your way into the desert and through a village where you can see how local people live.

Day 3: Cairo

  • Private Access To Great Pyramids - Kings Chamber
The Great Pyramid: Built for the Pharaoh Khufu in about 2570 B.C., it is the sole survivor of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, and arguably the most mysterious structure on the planet. The King’s Chamber is made entirely of pink granite and had to be built to resist an enormous amount of pressure from the stones above. It is an incredible feat of architecture, as its flat roof (composed of nine enormous granite blocks) supports over four hundred tons of masonry.

Day 4: Cairo to Luxor

  • Saqqara necropolis at Memphis
Saqqara is one of the richest archaeological sites, and greatest and oldest necropolises of Egypt. It is noteworthy as some of the most ancient and famous of the pyramids are found here; the Step Pyramid, the Bent Pyramid, and the Red Pyramid. These represent some Old Kingdom of Egypt’s most dazzling treasures that still survive today.
  • Transfer to Airport - flight to Luxor
Cairo kicks us into our extraordinary Egyptian experience, but it’s only the first stop and it’s time to get our move on!
  • Arrive Luxor - transfer to Luxor Resort & Spa
Luxor Resort & Spa, just 10 minutes from Luxor town center and is located in the village of Karnak on the east bank of the lush River Nile. Expect glorious views over the river and the historic city of Luxor. This stylish resort is the ideal base for exploring the region’s historical attractions. Among the eight restaurants and bars, you’ll find fragrant Arabian-style teas and Turkish coffees with waterfront views at Diwan Shisha Café. The sunken Oasis Pool Bar serves tasty drinks.

Day 5: Luxor

  • Visit Dendera "HATHOR" temple
A source of major controversy, if you have heard of the Dendera Light Bulb and want to see this famed relief up close and personal, visit the underground crypt of Hathor Temple at the Dendera Temple complex in Qena, Egypt. The Temple of Dendera is one of the most beautiful, enigmatic, and best-preserved temples in Egypt. If you’re looking for a jaw-dropping experience, the beautifully intricate, 2,000-year-old temple is not to be missed. There are three temples to view in the complex: the birthing temple at the front, the temple of Isis behind the main temple, and the main temple dedicated to Hathor. Hathor is the Egyptian sky goddess of sexual love, fertility, music, and dancing. It is also said she is the goddess of birth and motherhood. She is often depicted as the counterpart of Horus. In fact, Hathor translates to “House of Horus.”

Day 6: West bank & Luxor

  • Valley of the Kings tour
The Valley of the Kings is one of Egypt’s most spectacular and well-known destinations. Located on the west bank of the Nile River near Luxor, this small area contains a staggering amount of exquisitely decorated tombs of Egypt’s ancient Kings and Queens and may be the most magnificent burial ground the world has ever seen. These tombs are evidence of the elaborate preparations that were made for the next world, where people were promised continued life and kings and queens would take their place with the gods.
  • Luxor temple with Avenue of Sphinx
The Luxor Temple predated Ramesses II by about 150 years. During his reign, renovations were made that included the addition of the two obelisks. There is really no shortage of attractions in the area, but one of the definite “must-see” sites is without question the Avenue of the Sphinxes. Part of the vast Karnak Temple complex, it is located along the eastern shore of the river. This is an avenue of human headed sphinxes of over one and a half miles/ 3 km once connected the temples of Karnak and Luxor. This road was used once a year during the Opet festival when the Egyptians paraded along it carrying the statues of Amun and Mut in a symbolic re-enactment of their marriage. Around 1,350 sphinx statues are thought to have lined this road together with chapels stocked with offerings. Queen Hatshepsut (1479-1425 BC) built six of these chapels. The construction of the Avenue of Sphinxes began during the New Kingdom and finished during the 30th Dynasty rule of Nectanebo I (380-362 BC). The road was renovated by Queen Cleopatra (51-30 BC) and later used by the Romans. Recently 850 sphinx fragments have been discovered along a section of Sphinx road built by Amenhotep III (1390-1352 BC).

Day 7: Luxor to esna

  • Karnak temple tour
Karnak Temple, which have continued to astound those who have seen them, through the richness of their architectural design and decoration, their colossal statues and obelisks and often through the sheer vastness of their scale alone. Located at the northern end of the town of Luxor, Karnak Temple has three main sacred areas that honor three gods: Montu, an ancient local warrior god; Amun, the chief god of Thebes; and the goddess Mut, wife of Amun. Amun, Mut and their son, Khonsu, were members of the sacred family known as the Theban Triad. The construction of Karnak Temple began in the Middle Kingdom (2040-1640 B.C.) and was completed during the New Kingdom, (1550-1070 B.C.) some 1,600 years later. Every successive king of this era added to the temple, which covers two hectares (five acres) of land. It is a complicated site with four courtyards, ten pylons, a sacred lake and many buildings. On entering the Temples you will see each legacy left by the various pharaohs. The deeper you go into the complex, the further back in time you will travel.

Day 8: Esna

  • Temple of Khnum
Esna, located some 33 miles south of Luxor, is where you will board your dahabiya and meet the crew of your boat tour. A thriving merchant town, Esna is best known for the small ancient Temple of Khnum, which sits 9 meters below street level. Your trip will begin with a brief walk to the temple, and a stroll through the streets filled with beautiful textiles and other exotic goods.

You will usually be the only visitors at this fascinating site, as large Nile cruisers are not allowed to stop here. After visiting the small temple of Horemheb and walking through the sandstone quarries, where ancient Egyptians cut stone for many of their most famous temples, you will visit a picturesque café to enjoy tea and shisha (water pipe). The temple was dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile-headed god of fertility and creator of the world with Hathor and Khonsu.

Dear traveler,

I could say that I have been planning this trip for over a year, but in reality, this trip has been at least five years in the making, and on a grander scale, it is a trip I have been planning since I was a little girl. Like Egypt, planning this trip requires a level of focus and devotion that asks you to step up bigger than you have ever stepped up before. In the past 11 years, I have created adventures worldwide, and no other trip has required the amount of devotion, orchestration, connection, and love as this project.

If you ever want to go to Egypt or have that as a bucket list destination, I encourage you to make this trip happen! This trip has an incredibly high level of luxury, curation, and attention to detail that I promise you will not find again. This is not something I say lightly. This is over a decade of experience sharing that no trip like this will ever happen again on planet earth. Period.

I know that Egypt is preparing us for something miraculous, and I am so excited to see the group that comes together for this experience.

With love and in service,

Vanessa

There is laundry service at the hotels however, please be aware of the time it takes to receive the laundry back.

Nile Cruise:
Unfortunately, we do not have an "official" laundry service on board. That said, we have a small washing machine that our crew uses to wash their clothes. Our crew is happy to wash small loads of laundry for you as a courtesy at no cost. If you wish to leave a small tip for the crew member who does this, that is always welcome but not required. The WiFi signal is not always available and is subject to the connectivity available throughout the Nile. Therefore, you should not rely on it to work 100% of the time. That being said, you can use it to email and send messages about 70% of the time.

The following advice applies to women when visiting historical sites: Short skirts/shorts, revealing tank tops, or other potentially “provocative” clothing are not recommended. Unfortunately, this type of dress attracts unwanted attention and can be looked down upon, given that Egypt is a primarily Muslim country.

In general, women should wear long sleeves and dresses in Cairo and cities/locations other than Luxor, Aswan, and Hurgada, where more comfortable and less conservative clothing is more accepted because of tourism. When in these locations, it is still good to adhere to having a shawl to cover up when needed.

The above advice does not apply to the Nile river cruise. You are welcome to wear whatever you want while on the cruise, including bathing suits, bikinis, tank tops, etc. The boat staff are used to serving western clients and are not offended. The boat staff is completely respectful and, most of all, wants you to be comfortable. After all, Egypt can be quite hot at times!
